Guide to Exfoliation for All Skin Types

Whatever your skin type, exfoliation is the icing on the cake of beauty routine. It removes all dead cells from our skin to make room for new cells and young cells. Thanks to this step, your skin reveals a beautiful glow.

Why you should be exfoliating:

  • It boosts the penetration of the active ingredients which are then applied.
  • It boosts cell renewal, which solves many problems, such as dryness or dehydration.
  • It allows the skin to gain softness, radiance, and luminosity.
  • It helps to unclog pores and therefore promotes the evacuation of sebum

In many ways, it helps facial skin to breathe! And that is what we all want!

To apply this to your skincare routine the first thing to know is there are two types of exfoliators available to use according to your skin type: physical and chemical. We generally speak of scrub products when the exfoliation is physical and peeling masks for chemical  exfoliation. Keep reading to see what’s best for you!

Physical exfoliation:

It uses abrasive ingredients to smooth and regenerate the skin thanks to the movements of your fingers on your skin.

For who?  All skin types except ultra-sensitive skin, and oily skin. These types are generally at the risk of damaging the skin or over-exciting the sebaceous glands. For anyone who can use these, the physical scrub is super effective on blackheads and dry areas.

How to apply it? After you have splashed your skin with water, apply the scrub into your face in circular motions, avoiding the eye area. Gently massage your skin, with light movements, for 30 or 60 seconds. Rinse off with warm water.

How often? Once a week is the best for better results. Not too often because you risk damaging the hydrolipidic film that protects the epidermis or provoking an acne outbreak.

Chemical exfoliation:

Using a chemical peel, the active agents will dissolve the bonds in the skin, gently removing any dead cells and allowing for new skin layers to regenerate.

For who? This is perfect for sensitive skin and oily skin types who are affected by the aggressive scrub from a physical exfoliation. Mature skin types who follow anti-aging products will also benefit from this as the cells tend to take longer to regenerate from a physical scrub.

How to apply it? On damp skin, apply it all over your face with your fingers or a special brush, always avoiding the eye area. Leave it for 5 or 10 minutes, according to the product instructions. Remove with water.

How often? For this exfoliation, one or two times a month is enough.
