Alongside a cleansing oil, a cleansing balm is an essential step if you want to double cleanse your skin. They’re super similar - you could say a balm cleanser is just a solid oil-based cleanser since they share many of the same benefits in your skincare routine.
Why Use a Cleansing Balm?
They’re fantastic for double cleansing - the process of using an oily cleanser to dissolve the majority of makeup and sebum-based grime, then following up with a normal cleanser for thoroughly cleansed skin.
Another major benefit of using a balm cleanser is that they’re way better for travel! Because they’re a solid skincare product, they’re much less likely to spill and make a mess in your makeup bag - a real bonus if you’re always on the go.
How Do You Use Cleansing Balm?
Using clean hands or a spatula, scoop around a 20c sized piece of balm out of the container.
Melt it a little bit in your palms before massaging it onto dry skin - your body temperature will help it melt even more and allow it to grab every last trace of makeup on your skin.
Once every last bit of makeup has been broken down by the cleanser, you can wash it off with warm water - it’ll turn milky white and rinse away easily. To fully double cleanse, follow with a gel cleanser or cream cleanser to get every last little bit of grime off of your skin.
One of the best things about a balm cleanser is that they can benefit all skin types - even oily skin. They’re great for breaking down excess sebum, leaving skin oil-free but not stripped and dry.
