What anti ageing really works, according to science.

Retinol

This skincare staple was discovered in 1909, and was originally used as an anti acne medication. Doctors noticed the improvement of overall texture and colour, and a skincare star was born. It’s now used for a bevy of skin concerns including wrinkles, redness, thinning skin, pigmentation, loss of texture, loss of tone, loss of firmness….it’s basically a one stop skincare shop. Retinol improves cellular turnover and boosts collagen and elastin production, whilst normalising cell reproduction. Best used at night on dry skin.
Important: you must wear sunscreen in the day if you are using Retinol.
TL;DR - drastically improves skin texture. You need it.

Sunscreen

Scary statistic. 2 in 3 Australians will be diagnosed with skin cancer by the age of 70. If that’s not enough to make you reach for the sunscreen, let’s look at the sun and ageing. Sun damage causes: breakdown in collagen and elastin, enlarged pores, loss of firmness, dehydration, sensitivity, discolouration and degraded texture. It’s the single biggest factor in skin’s visual age, and the easier one to address. Prevention is better than cure, so slip, slop, slap.

Telomere Protection

Telomerase is the new Retinol. You heard it here, folks.
Science time! In 2009, 3 scientists won a Nobel Prize for their research into telomeres and ageing. Telomere are responsible for protecting your chromosomes (and therefore your DNA). The scientists found that if you could protect the telomeres, you could give the cell ‘eternal life’. This means this is the first technology that can address biological ageing, rather than environmental damage. This is definitely a trend to jump on if you’re serious about anti ageing.

Derma rolling

Derma rolling is when you create controlled, small wounds in the skin to trigger wound healing responses and increase product absorption. Whilst deeper needling has been available with professional therapists for some years, home derma rollers have seen a dramatic rise in popularity. These smaller needles assist greatly with product absorption and surface texture. Common side effects: smoother skin, fewer lines and wrinkles and increased performance from your skincare.

LED

LED therapy is used widely in medical settings to speed wound healing. There are numerous studies supporting its efficacy in stimulating collagen and elastin production, assisting with acne, soothing rosacea, calming skin post sunburn, and reduce pigmentation. Home LED therapies are gentle enough to use multiple times per week, and can provide a whole new glow.
Bonus: it’s safe to use on sensitive skin, or whilst pregnant.
